Susannah Hall is a workshop leader, permaculture garden designer, educator, community gardener and traditional craftswoman.
Workshop leader
I run workshops teaching about natural dyes, organic and permaculture gardening, permaculture design and wildlife. I have devised a range of workshops that I can give to small or larger groups. I can also prepare bespoke workshops.
Educator
I come from a line of teachers: my grandfather, both my great uncles and my great grandfather. I love teaching and I have spent most of my adult life teaching both adults and children. I teach longer courses and one-off workshops about permaculture, gardening and traditional crafts.
Speaker
When I was ten my father stood at the back of the church in Brompton, Kent and made me project my voice until he could hear me reading the lesson at the back. I love speaking! I can speak about living on my narrowboat, how I designed my award-winning balcony, natural dyeing, lots of gardening
subjects and permaculture design
Community Gardener
There is little more enjoyable than coming together to create a productive and beautiful garden with others. Threaded through that is the Permablitz London philosophy that everyone has their unique contribution to make and that we garden both for ourselves and for wildlife. I am a founding member of Permablitz London (founded in 2013) and love the educative and collaborative nature of permablitzes where people help each other create productive and beautiful edible, wildlife-friendly spaces. I have benefitted from the reciprocity of permablitzing (attend three and you can have one at your own space), having permablitzes on my allotment and to make planters for my balcony and
narrowboat.
Traditional crafts
Natural dyeing:
A lover of colours I fell in love with natural dyeing in 2008 and have been exploring and teaching people to use botanical and natural dyes and paints ever since. I now teach people to use natural dyes and have a shop where I sell naturally-dyed scarves, bags and t-shirts.
Working with wool:
I prepare wool, spin with a hand spindle, dye and make felt (bags, shoes, bowls, hats).
Events Organiser
I have been a key organiser for the London Permaculture Festival for the last eleven years. Over 600 people attend the festival held at Grade II Listed building, Cecil Sharp House in Camden every July.
